AGM Abogados collaborates in the IA·Veu project to promote a legal, ethical, Catalan-language voice AI

At AGM Abogados, we are participating as partners in the IA·Veu project, a collaborative initiative led by Fluendo and Idea Sonora, with the support of Clúster Audiovisual de Catalunya (the Catalan Audiovisual Cluster). Its aim is to develop a synthetic voice generation system in Catalan based on principles of legality, transparency, and data protection.

Our involvement is channelled through the Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) department, led by Vanesa Alarcón Caparrós, partner at AGM Abogados and a specialist in Technology Law. Vanesa is responsible for analysing and defining the legal framework governing both the training of the artificial intelligence model and the subsequent use of the generated voices, ensuring compliance with the European Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act), the GDPR, the Cyber Resilience Act and all other applicable EU regulations.

The IA·Veu project emerges in a context where the rapid introduction of artificial intelligence in the field of voice is transforming audiovisual production processes and, at the same time, raising new questions regarding the rights of voice-over professionals, the handling of biometric data and the legal certainty of AI generated content.

IA·Veu proposes an approach based on an independent infrastructure, with data obtained in controlled professional environments, robust mechanisms for consent, traceability and rights management, as well as a legally sound design from the outset following the principle of “legal by design”.

In addition to the organisations leading the initiative, IA·Veu benefits from the strategic participation of specialised actors such as Eurecat, which contributes expertise in cybersecurity and data protection, and AGM Abogados, which strengthens the legal dimension to ensure development aligned with current legislation and the highest ethical standards.

This project is funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU, supported by the Government of Catalonia, and will be publicly presented on 19 February, from 9:30 to 11:00, at OneCoWork Catedral (Barcelona).
